Latest Updates from Our Project:

All 1999 Expansion Cards are finished, take a look!
over 3 years ago – Thu, Dec 24, 2020 at 02:24:11 AM

A few weeks ago we shared all 56 of our finished base game cards. Today, we'd like to share 8 more that will be included in the Party Like it's 1999 Expansion. You would think choosing 8 more movie references from a single year wouldn't be much of a challenge, but 1999 was such a slammin' year for movies that it actually WAS quite a challenge!

So hard in fact that we called upon YOU to vote for your top 2 movies to reference. Those winners were OFFICE SPACE and GALAXY QUEST. A few 1999 classics! For the other 6 choices, we included your #3 choice (FIGHT CLUB), a few undeniably huge films, and a few selfish ones that we loved ;)

So there ya have it. Add these 8 new cards to the original 56 and you have an even 64 cards! And we are designing the Base Game card box to be able to fit all 64 if you backed this expansion.

While communication with our manufacturer is understandably slow due to the pandemic and holiday season, we are still pushing forward as fast as we can all things considered. And everything is shaping up nice and neat.

We're now honing in on the final game board and gave it a bit of a visual upgrade. We're hoping to share that next. The layout and colors are complete, all we need to do is bake in the dozens of easter eggs we came up with into the final design.

Regarding backer surveys, they will be sent out in 2021. Your patience helps us focus on finalizing everything and making it as rad as possible. No need to worry about changing addresses or adding anything to your order as that will happen all within the BackerKit surveys we will send out.

Hoping you are all safe and healthy out there this holiday season. Stay tuned.

All the cards are finished, take a look!
over 3 years ago – Wed, Dec 09, 2020 at 09:46:21 PM

Hey friends, we hope everyone out there is having a safe and healthy holiday season so far. We have some great news. All 56 of our base game cards are complete and ready for the manufacturer. There are 56 cards in total with 25 unique deigns. You have no idea how hard it was for a couple of movie nerds like us to narrow down our references to just 25 films. But the good news is that we think these turned out great. Take a look.

So there you have it! Be sure to tell Josh what a fantastic job he did with the artwork here. He went above and beyond the call of duty with these.

Next Steps, Manufacturing Updates & BackerKit Survey:

We're finalizing and polishing the rest of the game components so we can send them to our manufacturer as soon as possible. There are some slight delays going on now, and communication has been a little spotty during the pandemic. But we got a reply this week and are moving forward.

We're currently finalizing the Game Board and the 3D sculpted Player Pieces, VHS Tokens, and Late Fee Tokens. 95% done there. After that, we will finish the Player Cards and Cover Art. Then we're just putting final dimensions on all the other components such as the card box, components bag, and rule book. We need to ensure it all fits snug in our recycled VHS boxes :) We will be dropping updates with images as soon as they are sharable.

Once we get a final quote and some images of the final product, we will be sending out our BackerKit Surveys. Here you will be able to edit your address, customize your final order, order extra copies of the game, add on some cool new items, and pay for shipping. You will know well in advance before these surveys come out. It's looking like it'll be sometime in the first quarter of 2021.

Your patience here is so very appreciated. We're moving as fast as we can all things considered. We look forward to sharing more updates more frequently now that we're checking things off the list at a good pace.

Next week you can look forward to our final "Party Like it's 1999" Expansion Cards. They are complete too! There are 8 new movie references and a few very powerful cards within.

And lastly, in the comments section, let us know what card is your favorite.

New card layout and color scheme!
over 3 years ago – Sun, Nov 01, 2020 at 10:53:33 PM

Hope y'all had a happy and safe Halloween!

We're juuuust about finished with all the cards and I wanted to share a first-look at our final card design including new front & back layouts AND our new Cyan, Magenta, & White color scheme that you will see throughout the packaging & game components. I included the back design (left), an example of a card without the text just for reference (middle), and a final card with all elements included (right). Did you notice I chose a couple of spooky cards for Halloween :)

If we count BOTH "Base" and "Expansion" cards, we have a total of 64 cards featuring 34 different drawings. Josh had a blast making these, but it was EXTREMELY difficult for us to narrow down our choices. We hope you like all the movie references and inspirations that made the cut.

Stay tuned as we will be sharing montage images of all the "Base Cards" (26 drawings) and our "Expansion Cards" (8 drawings) very soon.

And as always, we appreciate all your patience as we drive this puppy home. I promise the final game will be so very cool and worth the wait.

*Here's a little sneek peek at a few cards we haven't shared yet inspired by Pulp Fiction, Ghostbusters, and Top Gun. Stay tuned for more soon...

First Look: 3D Player Pieces, VHS Tokens, and Late Fee Tokens!
over 3 years ago – Wed, Sep 23, 2020 at 03:24:29 PM

Hey Rental Rumblers!

Phew, having a kid is a lot of work! Thanks for your patience as always as BOTH Josh and I navigate first-time daddyville. Thought it was time for an update. Let's dive in....err maybe check the waters and make sure you can't hear the JAWS theme first. Duh dunt. Duh dunt...

As you know, together we reached ALL of the stretch goals during the campaign. Woo-hoo! We upgraded the player pieces from classic meeples to 3D sculpted pieces. We upgraded the chit board VHS pieces into 3D sculpted pieces. And we upgraded the chit board Late Fee Tokens to 3D sculpted pieces. Well, we have our first look at the designs so you can get an idea of the direction. As a bonus, there is a first-look at the 3D VHS Return Box as well.

**NOTE** These are rough concepts of what the final sculpts will look like. They will change a bit as we add color, add text, and tweak a few things here and there. But it's safe to say they will look pretty close to this sculpt-wise. We don't have the final dimensions just yet.

We hope you like how these are going so far as we feel they are pretty rad. And definitely a lot cooler than the basic meeples we had planned on.

I'll keep y'all posted as we make more progress. I assure you, we are going as fast as we can considering both Josh and I have kids just a few months old, this is our first game ever, we have full-time jobs, and all the COVID business. We hope everyone reading this is safe and healthy, and we truly can't wait to get Rental Rumble in your hands soon :)

One last thing, we only have 2-3 more cards to finish before they are ALL complete. Yes, even the 1999 Expansion Cards! We will share an update soon sharing all of those with you. I'll leave you with a sneak peek at our card inspired by the movie JAWS!

Baby's Day Out...literally. And some new card art!
over 3 years ago – Sun, Aug 16, 2020 at 08:31:40 PM

Oh boy... I mean for real, it's a boy! I'd like to introduce Desmond Wolf Furie to all you rental rumblers out there! Also know as the reason for the update delay! As always, we really appreciate you patience. Between BOTH Josh and I having babies this year, the pandemic, and the overall state of things, it's been a wild ride. But rest easy knowing Rental Rumble is coming along smoothly.

Here are a few things we've completed:

  • Almost ALL of the main 56 action cards are complete and we will be rolling out an update soon to reveal all of the movie references we are including along w/ the border design and back-side design.
  • Our 8 Expansion card references are all chosen (2 voted in by our backers!) and Josh is hard at work creating those art assets. Almost done :)
  • We've chosen and paid our manufacturing partner for the game creation. This is a bit of a process we are learning (first-time game designers here) but it's moving along smoothly. Soon we will share images of what we are working on including: Player pieces, VHS tokens, Late Fee Tokens, and the optional VHS Return Box piece.
  • We are laying out the final designs for our player cards, box art, game board, and rule book. Of course we will share images as we get them in.
  • Tweaking the game board and rule book designs a little to include more retro goodness and classic movie references. I'm 100% confident this game is going to far exceed your expectations.

To tide you over until the next update, here are 3 new pieces of card art inspired by E.T., Home Alone, and Happy Gilmore.

Hopefully Josh and I will be throwing some more updates at ya soon, but until then, I need some sleep! So very excited to get the final game in your hands as soon as possible.

Until next time...
