The votes are in and we've chosen our final 1999 Expansion Pack References!

Hey Rental Rumble backers!
Last week, we let our backers vote for TWO movies from 1999 to make it into the final version of our 1999 Expansion pass. Special thanks to all the backers that cast their votes! The results are in and we have our winners:
OFFICE SPACE and GALAXY QUEST
These two iconic films from 1999 will now inspire TWO cards in our 1999 Expansion pass! Keep in mind, the votes were ONLY from movies that released in 1999 from a list of 20. And we didn't let folks vote for STAR WARS EPISODE 1 or THE MATRIX because we had already developed those cards inspired by those iconic films. Â
We started with a list of 40, yes 40, movies we would totally reference. We then narrowed that list down to 20 and let backers vote for their top 2 choices.
Here's the rundown of the backer vote for those curious:
- (24) Office Space
- (23) Galaxy Quest
- (19) Fight Club
- (14) Austin Powers
- (11) American Pie
- (9) The Iron Giant
- (8) The Blair Witch Project
- (6) Mystery Men
- (6) Sleepy Hollow
- (5) 10 Things I Hate About You
- (3) The Green Mile
- (3) The Mummy
- (3) The Sixth Sense
- (2) Being John Malkovich
- (2) Drop Dead Gorgeous
- (2) Wild Wild West
- (1) America Beauty
- (1) Eyes Wide Shut
- (0) Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai
- (0) Three Kings
Ok, so there is NO WAY to please everyone here as we only have EIGHT 1999 cards. So we thought allowing our backers to pick 2 was a cool way to get y'all involved in our decision-making process. The remaining card choices were a balance of our (Jason & Josh) preferences, cultural impact and popularity at the time, genre balance, and basically references we think will make cool card art.Â
So without further ado, here are the final EIGHT 1999 Expansion Pack card inspirations:
- STAR WARS EPISODE 1: THE PHANTOM MENACE
- THE MATRIX
- OFFICE SPACE (Backer Choice)
- GALAXY QUEST (Backer Choice)
- FIGHT CLUB
- THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT
- THE MUMMY
- THE SIXTH SENSE
This was a tough choice, but ultimately it is an amazing lineup that we are proud of. We will share final card art as it develops so stay tuned! We have a lot of fun updates coming soon.
Now let's head to the comments section and discuss, please be nice, haha :)Â

Small Update Now, Bigger Updates Soon!

Hey friends!Â
Wanted to send everyone a super quick update letting you know that our main Kickstarter profile will be getting a profile name change from Late Fee Games back to its original name Jason Furie. Hey, that's me!Â
There's no wild reason this is happening, the game Josh and I are creating is still called Rental Rumble by Late Fee Games. This change is really only affecting this Kickstarter profile page and the original URL of the Rental Rumble campaign page. No biggie.
The change is mainly due to potential long-term plans. There is a possibility, after Rental Rumble is 100% complete and delivered, that I may launch different Kickstarter campaigns not directly affiliated w/ the Late Fee Games brand. Maybe enamel pins, maybe a toy, maybe a documentary/movie, maybe an old school sci-fi paperback. Who knows!? Plus, I've backed 170 projects since 2012 on this account and I'm sentimental like that.Â
As for Rental Rumble progress, Josh and I are still full steam ahead. We are chatting Wednesday to decide what we will share as our next big update. Lots of exciting things finally coming together and near ready to share. This game is going to be so very epic!
Stay tuned friends, and as always, I really appreciate all your patience as our deadlines and delivery dates have been pushed. Your patience is really awesome, and helps us focus on making Rental Rumble even cooler than we imagined.

Rental Rumble Art Update!

– Sat, May 16, 2020 at 01:18:55 AM
Happy Friday everyone! We hope you and your loved ones are safe and healthy.
Now on with the update! It's been awhile since we updated everyone on the card art so we thought we'd share a few images with you to give everyone and idea of what to expect. The above shot gives you a solid idea of what our final card art framing will look like. Of course these are just rough shots and the title and descriptions below them will be cleaned up and edited a bit to match the art showcased. But this is the best look yet at the final design. Personally, I think it's looking sharp and a step forward compared to our prototype designs.
And here are a few of the raw art files that will populate the card design above. We are planning to create 34 unique drawings between our base cards and our 1999 expansion cards. So more updates coming soon sharing more of these images referencing our favorite flicks from the 70s, 80s and 90s (movies you would find at the rental stores in the 80s and 90s!)
Stay tuned for more updates as we finalize the design and art for Rental Rumble. We're moving forward smoothly now after a rocky few months. Expect a small delay from our projected July delivery date. As of now, we're likely moving toward manufacturing in July rather than delivery. As always we appreciate your patience here, and we will always be transparent with projected delivery dates.Â
Also, don't worry about updating your address just yet. As we get closer to shipping, we will deliver a BackerKit survey to collect that updated information and give you one last chance to customize your order.Â
Thanks, and have a safe weekend!Â

Update: Shelter-in-Place & Babies

Hey friends,
First and foremost, Josh and I hope everyone reading this is at home, safe, and healthy. Our thoughts are with you all and your loved ones during these challenging times. Try to remember, we're all in this together and there are a lot of folks out there doing some pretty amazing things to help those in need.Â
Josh and I are both doing well, and staying home. And before I go any further, some pretty great news to share. Josh is a new father to a healthy baby girl as of January 2020, and my wife and I are expecting a little boy in late July 2020. So, 2 men and 2 babies. Close enough.
We are both very excited to be entering fatherhood at the same time, and most of our energy and time has been dedicated to our family as I'm sure you can all understand. Its been challenging for sure, and very scary at times, but we are beginning to get use to this new normal and are actually getting back to work on the game little by little. Needless to say, there will almost surely be a delay on our end and we would greatly appreciate the patience as we navigate through these uncharted waters. Plus I just watched the movie Parasite for the first time, so I'm a little off-balance.Â
That said, we are making progress. Remember, we are a team of just 2. Just Josh and Jason. And Josh is our lead artist and has been cooking up some really great card art lately. I'll share another update very soon showing a behind-the-scenes look at some of the new cards we've made. They are looking solid. I'll also go in more detail about our process and what we still need to accomplish. And of course, as promised, give y'all a chance to vote on some movies for us to reference. There are actually a lot of great updates on the horizon. Finalizing the art is hard work, but very fun to share. Be on the lookout!Â
Keep an eye on these updates as there is more to come. Until then, stay safe and be kind.
Jason & Josh
